In Zambia’s iconic South Luangwa National Park, The Bushcamp Company operates six exclusive Bushcamps in the remote south of the park, as well as the award-winning Mfuwe Lodge just inside the main park gate. Set out from any of these secluded, intimate camps and you will be guaranteed an unrivaled wildlife experience in one of the last unspoiled wilderness regions of Africa – the very place where the African walking safari was pioneered.

The Bushcamp Company was formed in 1999 when four camps – the well-established Kuyenda and Chamilandu, and the younger Chindeni and Bilimungwe – came together with existing Mfuwe Lodge under one parent company.

The fifth bushcamp, Kapamba, was built on the banks of the Kapamba River in 2005, and in 2008 a sixth camp, Zungulila, was built upstream on the same river. Founded by Andy Hogg and Andrea Bizzaro, the company is still run from its headquarters at Mfuwe Lodge by Andy – a Zambian who used to work at Save the Rhino Trust’s Chinzombo Lodge in Luangwa.

They are fortunate to be the sole safari operator in the southern section of the park. They take pride in the intimate nature of their small, exclusive bushcamps, each situated in breathtaking and remote locations, far from other camps and tourists.

Conservation & Community

The Bushcamp Company works closely with the local community to help conserve precious resources and support education. As part of its commitment to the wildlife and people of South Luangwa, the company collaborates with the expanding local community and conservation organizations. They develop projects aimed at conserving resources, supporting education, and generating a sustainable source of income for those living around the Park.

This includes collaborating with Conservation South Luangwa (CSL) in their efforts to protect and save South Luangwa’s wildlife and natural resources, implementing the Commit to Clean Water project that drills fresh-water boreholes for the Mfuwe community, and running the Meal-a-Day program, providing lunch to 2,500 children daily.

Keyrings for Conservation

Raising awareness and funds for their conservation and community projects is a significant aspect of the Bushcamp Company. The Ele Collection, a successful and popular source of funding for their projects, involves the sale of colorful keyrings.

The proceeds from the keyring sales contribute to elephant conservation in South Luangwa National Park, supporting Conservation South Luangwa and the Commit to Clean Water program, which drills boreholes in the local community to provide fresh drinking water.

The company aims for these engaging keyrings to raise awareness about the need to protect the park's wildlife while benefiting the surrounding community. All guests contribute to supporting their projects, and these keyrings serve as a tangible reminder of that support.

The trip might have been the absolute best of our lifetime (thus far). We particularly want to commend our guide Peter in the Guilin area-he was so incredibly attentive, energetic, enthusiastic-and absolutely dedicated to ensuring that our meals were 100% vegetarian.
