Planning Your Holiday Escape

For the busy holiday season, Adventure Life reserves spaces far in advance in various hotels, lodges and yachts in our favorite destinations. Book early to ensure your spaces!

As a seasoned traveler, you know that it is never too early to begin plans for holiday travel. The savvy who get a head-start on their wish-list are gifted with the best trip option, travel dates, and save themselves a lot of unnecessary stress. And remember, air travel expenses begin to skyrocket for the holidays in October. Last year, we saw international flights go from $900 to $2500+ almost overnight. There is a solution to expensive air travel – the earlier you can confirm your travel plans, the more likely you will be able to find reasonable flights. This year, simplify your holiday travels and start planning your retreat today.

We're Not the Only Ones Who Love Peru

Preparing for the parade at Plaza de Armas Almost exactly a year ago, Machu Picchu was voted as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Rightfully so: The beauty and mystery of Machu Picchu's walled ruins -- once palaces of fine Inca stonework -- is augmented even more by the lush landscape of its surroundings. This historic region sits nearly 8,000 feet above sea level, on top of a ridge between two peaks. Its purpose continues to intrigue, with mysteries that perhaps will never fully be unraveled. And earlier this year, National Geographic Adventure ranked Peru's Salcantay Trek among its Top 25 Trips to take in 2008.

Now, Travel & Leisure Magazine has just announced Cusco, Peru as one of the Top 10 Cities to visit in the world. This annual poll conducted by Travel & Leisure consists of a gathering of votes and comments from the magazine’s readers who choose the top ranking cities. Perhaps a few of you had a chance to vote for beautiful, colonial, Cusco!

Fun Fact

Tikal Ruin in Guatemala Hidden within Guatemala's El Peten jungle is Tikal, the largest, and possibly oldest, ruined city of the Maya's Classic Period. The site encompasses at least 3,000 buildings, including temples that loom above the forest. It consists of nine groups of courts and plazas built on hills above surrounding swamps, all interconnected by bridges and causeways. Before its decline, Tikal was home to an estimated 100,000 Maya.
