Day 2: Sierra de la Laguna | Ranchero Culture
1 Lunch
Today travel to the Sierra de la Laguna UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, an area representing highly important and contrasting ecosystems, including the only pine and oak forests in the region. This reserve is notable for its rich biodiversity and endemic plant species as well as its vital role as the water supply of adjacent settlements. Walk with your guide through the canyons and observe the flora and fauna, search for the vernal pools and waterfalls that dot the lush landscape, and admire the scenery of this oasis in the desert. Community members play an important role in conservation projects and in sustaining traditional livelihoods. After lunch meet with a local family to learn about the centuries-old ranchero culture and activities still practiced today. Return to Cabo Pulmo in the late afternoon.
Spend the morning experiencing Cabo Pulmo National Park, a protected area comprised of marine and coastal habitat as well as a fragile coral reef ecosystem. Once threatened from overfishing, this park serves as one of Mexico's greatest marine conservation success stories and is home over 200 fish species. Snorkel along this northernmost coral reef in the Eastern Pacific, catching sight of multicolored fish and mammals including whale sharks and dolphins. You may even see manta rays jumping out of the Sea of Cortez!
Head north to La Paz after lunch. The capital of Baja California Sur, La Paz boasts world-class beaches, an active nightlife on the waterfront Malecón, access to marine adventure activities, and of course fresh seafood! Explore the city with your guide, learning about its history, people, and culture while also sampling local delicacies.
This morning transfer to the marina to try on your snorkeling gear and wetsuit. You will then head out on the water for the short trip to the whale shark observation zone. On the way out of the bay, learn from your guide about whale shark ecology and regulations for snorkeling. You’ll have the chance to get in the water accompanied by your guide to snorkel alongside one of these marvelous creatures.
Back on land in time for lunch, take the opportunity to explore La Paz: tranquil, scenic, and a great town to get to know on foot. During the walking tour you will visit cultural and architectural sites of interest, learn about the history of La Paz, meet some of its people, and along the way stop to try many of the local delicacies. You'll also take in the Mi Ciudad mural project, a treat for the eyes with murals from local and regional artists on display around the city.
Early this morning you are transferred to the marina where you board a boat for an 1.5-hour ride to Espiritu Santo Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With its scenic cliffs, mangroves, sandy beaches, and diverse wildlife, see why this gem is one of Baja's most amazing destinations.Your first stop is at a sea lion colony, where you can join your guide in swimming and snorkeling with playful sea lions. Next board your boat and navigate to a pristine beach where a delicious meal of fresh seafood awaits (special dietary needs are taken into account upon request). Your guides provide a presentation about the natural history and conservation of Espiritu Santo; the island is the only known habitat of the black jackrabbit! Enjoy swimming, hiking, or relaxing on the beach, where you'll spend the night. After dinner, sit back and watch the stars.
After your adventurous week, relax with a day exploring laid-back Todos Santos on the Pacific coast. Enjoy a surf class in the gentle Pacific rollers, and walk around the quaint town to enjoy its architecture, shops and fantastic restaurants.

Our guide and driver were very good with their knowledge and were very helpful with our questions. It was a very pleasant visit that would have been impossible to do on our own. Hotels and restaurants were fantastic. The special places we got to go to, like the kitchens, were great. Enjoyed the entire trip!

Hannah and Nur got the gist of what we wanted our trip to be. They got us in hotels that were located centrally to historic tours. Tours and excursions that were significant, enriching and enjoyable. We had drivers that were on time/reliable. We got from location to location with ease. I would never have been able to plan this myself. I would not have known enough to ask for what we needed. This was above and beyond what I expected. Well done!
