San Pedro de Atacama is a small village of adobe houses and narrow streets with an incredible history; it was already a well established community when Pedro de Valdivia (the Spanish Conquistador) came through the area over 450 years ago.

When in the mood for adventure, the archeologically rich and geologically diverse area around San Pedro awaits. A few blocks from your room is the Padre Le Paige Archeological Museum, which, complete with mummies, ceramics and gold figurines, traces the evolution of San Pedro's inhabitants over the past 11,000 years. Other options are to visit the ruins of Quitor Pukara or the 3000 year old Tulor hamlet. Also nearby is the Valley of the Moon, an incredible area of time eroded rock formations painted with all the colors of beauty that the desert has to offer. The hotsprings of Puritama and the geyser field of Tatio, the highest in the world at 13,300 feet, are both easily accessible on a day trip from the comfort of your room at La Casa de Don Tomas.
