Pacaya Active Volcano Hike

The tour starts with a morning transfer to the foothills of the active Pacaya volcano. The hike then begins with a fairly strenuous hike through wonderful pine forest up to the more tricky volcanic ash section and finally to the sulfur smoking cone. On occasions you can even see small eruptions and lava flow depending on the activity of the volcano. From the summit we can enjoy great views to the northern volcanoes, the Pacific lowlands and all the way to El Salvador. Half way down, we stop to enjoy a picnic lunch with the impressive volcano in close sight. Back at the base of the volcano, our support vehicle awaits us for our transfer back to Antigua.

Antigua Valley Bike

Leaving from your hotel doorstep, this biking tour is a great half day excursion in the scenic Antigua valley. Ride down back roads and trails through local villages, farms and fields. You will be met at your hotel this morning by your private guide for today's excursion. First, transfer to the village Jocotenango, just on the outskirts of Antigua where you can visit the local workshops of the traditional woodcarvers of the area. You can also see the interesting pink and white facade of the Jocotenango church before you transfer across to the wonderful Azotea Coffee farm and museums. Here you can have a private guided tour of the Coffee Farm and the museums exhibiting traditional Mayan music and costume. Learn about the importance of coffee in Guatemala's history and its impact today, while hearing about the Maya way of life.

Textile, Folk Art and Colonial Architecture Tour of Antigua

Today you will tour around Antigua with a focus on both the colonial monuments of this beautiful town and to learn about the wonderful and complex Guatemalan textiles and folk art. This tour will both cover the historical and architectural highlights of Antigua. You will also learn about the symbolism found in folk art. Tecpan Market and Iximche Maya Ruins

Today you will be picked up at your hotel to transfer to the town of Tecpan, the site of the first Spanish Colonial Capital. Once at Tecpan your guide will show you around this lively, authentic market where Maya people from the surrounding area congregate to buy and sell products for the week ahead. You will see the traditional textiles worn by the local people as well as exotic produce from the surrounding area. Enjoy a traditional lunch in a nearby restaurant before transferring back to the Maya ruins of Iximche for a guided tour of this small but significant site which has a fascinating Maya Altar. At the back of this site the visiting shaman still come to practice rituals.
