Originally built for NOAA oceanic research, the ice-strengthened Ushuaia is now exclusively a passenger vessel with an 88-guest occupancy. It is not a luxurious ship, but it definitely offers a comfortable and engaging way to explore the Antarctic waters at a great value. Exquisite local cuisine and delicious cocktails and spirits help to round out the experience.
Just like when it was a research vessel, the main aim of these itineraries is to maximize time onshore learning about the fascinating polar region, home to penguins, seals, and whales. Inflatable watercraft will give you exclusive access to the otherwise inaccesible coastline of the rugged "white continent."
Back onboard, you will appreciate the warmth of the comfortable cabins, and with four decks of varying classes of cabins, you can choose which one best suits your needs. And if you want to see the Antarctic from the eyes of the captain, you are welcome to join the friendly crew on the bridge at any time.

The trip might have been the absolute best of our lifetime (thus far). We particularly want to commend our guide Peter in the Guilin area-he was so incredibly attentive, energetic, enthusiastic-and absolutely dedicated to ensuring that our meals were 100% vegetarian.

The pre-planning and execution of the plan was excellent. They were even able to help get glasses returned when a member or our party left them in a hotel.
